Construction foreman Cody McPherson always considered himself as straight as they come. That is until he finds himself falling for the handsome stonemason, Sam Denham, that constantly occupies his thoughts. He wants Sam, badly, and can’t get the man out of his mind. Worse yet, he isn’t even sure if Sam is gay. When he finds out that Sam has signed up with a dating service searching for a guy who looks exactly like him Cody is even more eager, and confused than before.
Sam can’t believe that he’s developed a huge crush on his obviously straight co-worker. Even worse, the job that allowed him to see Cody on an almost daily basis has ended and he desperately misses his buddy in a way that goes far beyond just friendship. In an effort to soothe his aching heart and body, he tries to get a blind date with someone like Cody so he can pretend for just one night that he holds Cody in his arms.
When Cody himself shows up as Sam’s blind date, he is at once elated and afraid of having his heart broken by just another straight guy looking to sample the gay life. He wants to be so much more than Cody’s 1Night Stand and if he’s given the chance, Sam will do anything to prove that love doesn’t discriminate based on gender.
Cody has always considered himself 100% straight and has no idea what to do with the feelings that Sam seems to inspire. They work together on the construction site for 5 months, going out to lunch and just hanging around each other as friends and co workers. Cody is not even sure if Sam is gay…he certainly doesn’t act flamboyant or obvious and Cody isn’t sure how to proceed. One day, while going over some work on Sam’s computer, Cody discovers a page open to a site called 1 Night Stand. Sam seems to be looking for an exact duplicate of Cody for a hot and heavy date. Gathering up his courage, Cody fills out the application to join the site and manages to score a blind date with Sam!
When the two men meet up and Sam realizes that his dreams of having Cody are about to come true, the two men realize that their friendship and physical attraction has the possibility of turning into something serious. Sam is tired of the dating scene and wants someone he can grow old with. He is afraid that Cody will just walk away in the morning but Cody isn’t willing to give Sam up so quickly.
This is a short story but the author does a really good job of creating characters that I really liked. I could really feel Cody’s confusion over his attraction to another guy. I could sympathize with Sam when he worries that Cody is going to bolt in the morning. The majority of this book is about the sexual exploration between these two men but it is very well written. There is heat, emotion, playfulness and real feelings between these two characters. At the end of the night, they are both more than willing to dive into a relationship with each other and talk openly about how they are going to deal with the real life issues of being a gay couple.
I was especially thrilled with the epilogue that the author included. I always love reading about how things work out between characters after the actual story is over. The epilogue is sweet and gives me the perfect ‘happily ever after’ that I always look for!
Great characters, sexy love scenes, and overall wonderful writing!
