SEX, LIES AND MIDNIGHT
By Tawny Weber
Series: Undercover Operatives, #2
Publisher: Harlequin Blaze
Release Date: Dec 2011
Length: 224 pages
Born into a con artist family, Maya Nicholas abandoned the grifting life to live on the straight and narrow (and somewhat dull) years ago. But when her family is threatened—and the swindlers are on the verge of becoming the swindled— Maya swings into action. All she needs is a stand-in boyfriend, and the charming, tasty-as-sin Simon Barton will do quite nicely, thanks.
But Simon has a little lie of his own. He’s FBI, and Maya is his inside track to her less-savory relations. It’s a mutual using, which quickly turns into a scorching mutual attraction. In fact, their naughty little sexcapades are the only things they aren’t faking!
Being the best agent in the bureau is objective number one on Simon’s list of duties for his life, until he finds himself knee deep in the most intriguing woman to cross his path in a long time. Slipping into a persona from his FBI life came on like a second skin when talking to Maya until he gets to know her and how easily it was for her to steal his heart. Simon is in need of serious back up, but this time no amount of fire power or a badge is going to save him from the one who stole his heart.
Maya Black is just trying to make it from one day until the next. After leaving the only home she had ever known several years before, her life has been drifting. Meeting Simon is both a blessing and a curse. Not only is he turning out to be the perfect guy for her, but there is obviously something that he is hiding from her. When all of his skeletons are aired, how can Simon make Maya understand that he did it all for her? Can this budding romance have a chance or will the con man’s baby girl lose everything?
For a second book in the series, this was a nice continuation and really made me want to read more about each character as Ms. Weber developed them. The story of Maya and Simon was not only sweet and heartfelt but it was very real and easy to read. Several times in the story I could really feel the characters directing the story and it was a nice change of pace from how some other authors write. If you are looking for a fun winter read that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat and panting to know more with each page than this is the series for you. Be sure to catch the third and final book Sex, Lies and Valentines out soon to complete the Black family collection.
